Full Steel Shot Production Process: Step-by-Step Manufacturing Guide
Steel shot is the mainstream spherical abrasive for shot blasting cleaning, rust removal, descaling and shot peening. Stable roundness, balanced hardness and low breakage rate all rely on standardized, full-process production. Below is the complete industrial manufacturing workflow, plus our factory's quality advantages at every stage.
Step 1: Strict Raw Material Selection & Inspection
High-purity steel scrap and alloy raw materials are screened first. We remove rusted, mixed impurity materials to stabilize carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur and phosphorus content.
Our Advantage: Fixed premium raw material suppliers, batch chemical pre-testing via spectrometer to avoid unstable hardness caused by poor raw materials.

Step 2: Medium-Frequency Induction Furnace Melting
Qualified raw materials are fed into induction furnaces and melted above 1600℃. Technicians continuously detect molten steel composition to adjust alloy proportions, eliminate internal slag and impurities. Uniform molten steel lays the foundation for high roundness shot.
Our Advantage: Automated temperature control system, consistent molten steel purity to reduce hollow, defective steel shot.

Step 3: High-Pressure Water Atomization (Core Forming Process)
Molten steel flows through precision nozzles and is split into tiny droplets by high-pressure water jets. Surface tension naturally forms spherical particles, which cool rapidly in water bath to solidify into raw steel shot. Atomization pressure directly determines sphericity.
Our Advantage: Adjustable atomization parameters to produce full S-series sizes (S110–S930); high roundness rate over 95%, few irregular or elongated particles.

Step 4: Quenching Heat Treatment for Hardness
Raw spherical shot enters continuous quenching furnace for rapid cooling, forming dense martensite structure to boost base hardness and wear resistance.
Our Advantage: Precise temperature control avoids over-hard brittle shot or soft deformed shot.
Step 5: Tempering to Balance Hardness & Toughness
Quenched steel shot goes through low-temperature tempering to eliminate internal quenching stress, adjust hardness to standard HRC 40–52. This critical step lowers breakage rate during cyclic blasting.
Our Advantage: Custom tempering curves for different application scenarios; our steel shot can recycle 2000+ times to cut clients' abrasive cost.
Step 6: Multi-Layer Precision Screening & Grading
Heat-treated steel shot passes multi-stage vibrating screens calibrated to SAE J444 standards. Oversize, fine powder and deformed particles are separated and recycled back to melting furnace. Only standard-size shot enters next procedure.
Our Advantage: Tight size tolerance, no mixed large/fine particles, consistent blasting effect for mass production.

Step 7: Full Batch Quality Inspection
Every finished batch undergoes comprehensive lab tests: hardness test, sphericity inspection, sieve grading, breakage fatigue test, chemical composition analysis. Complete COA inspection reports are provided for all shipments.
Our Advantage: Independent quality lab with full testing equipment; reject unqualified products strictly before delivery.

Step 8: Anti-Rust Treatment & Export Packaging
Qualified steel shot receives light anti-rust treatment, then packed in 25kg woven bags or 1-ton jumbo bags. Sealed packaging prevents moisture and rust during long sea transportation. Complete export documents including MSDS, CO and inspection certificates are attached.
Our Advantage: Flexible packaging customization, stable bulk stock, fast loading and on-time global delivery.
